Hi There
I am a guitarist, but dabbling fairly seriously in software synths with the intention of using them on a laptop live. (Choosing soft synths as I'm not a proper keyboardist so trying this until I feel ready to drop $ on a good hardware one...) I have bought Arturia Analog Factory Experience and am thinking of getting, say a second hand laptop to run this and a couple of other things on, to play along with a live band.
Does anyone here do this type of thing, and apart from having an interface, what else should I be considering? It's quite new (but very interesting) ground for me. Do you just DI into the PA via the interface?
Thanks for reading... any help is appreciated! |

Hi FutureProof. I use soft synths in a live performance setting, and yes, I run a DI to the PA through my firewire interface. It sounds great.
Before you go dropping big $$ on new softsynths though, I recommend checking out all the free VSTs out there. Lots of good stuff. |

| I've never actually played a live show, but I play soft synths "live" in my room everyday and it works fine. I've done it into an amp before too. All you do is plug the computer out and plug it into and amp (DI). The volume will be tremendously loud because it will be line level, so you'll want to turn that down a bit or you could blow something (ears included). |
