Anybody notice the lost samples (particularly in Simpler)
in live 6?
In my case it seems to apply to the Live packs from 5 as well as (most importantly) aftermarket stuff from SoundWrecks (CovertOperators),
LiveFill, abnd ToneResearch.
Any solutions as yet? |

Hey, Ash ... you know, I have the same problem. It's particularly troublesome that Live's own Simpler and Impulse sample sets die, because I often rely on those as defaults for sharing files between users / machines. I think it has to do with the way Live 6 restructures its folder structure. The new structure is definitely an improvement, but something is lost in translation.
Have you dug through the Ableton forums yet on this? (I need to do that.) I'm sure there's an answer/workaround there ... |

Peter,
Via the Fellows at CovertOps,
(their new website launched the other day)
they've offered some help.
Haven't had a chance to check this out.
As I've only got a copy of the 6 Demo as yet,
am not sure whether I can implement what is suggested
without losing something permanently from 5.
Let me know how you go please!
Do you have 'SoundWrecks' from CovertOperators?
Also, any idea what happened to 'ToneResearch'?
Have they dried up and blown away?
Their Simpler patches were good...
A

Hey Ash,
Thanks for the tip! I got confirmation from Ableton and they sent a full message thread on the topic that provides some more detail; between that and the Covert Ops post everyone should be set.
I have no idea about Tone Research; you might ask the Covert Ops folks if they know what happened as they're probably more on top of this than I am. |

| Ha, I did an unattended install of the Live 6 demo (meaning that I was absent-mindedly clicking through all the prompts while watching Return of the Jedi) and had no idea it changed the library format. When I went back to using Live 5 over the weekend it was a nightmare. I got it all sorted out now, but it reminds me of that piece of software that had "If you read this, we'll send you a thousand dollars" buried in the EULA. |

Yeah, I think they know they screwed up on that one. Note that you can download both the Live 5 and Live 6 sound packs now, so that should be a big help. My custom-programmed patches all came through fine; it was only Ableton's presets that were touched. Now it looks like I can sort it all out.
Other than that, though, no problems at all with Live 6 ... even with the late betas / release candidates, and I've been using them several hours a day (for reasons I'll be able to reveal shortly). It's a very reliable release. The only glitch I found was with Audio Damage's Reverence plug-in, but I've let Chris know about that so I expect that'll get sorted. Most plug-in developers seem to be Ableton fans. |
