Hi, I've got a Canon Powershot A70 and a G4 Powerbook. The camera works perfectly with Remote Capture provided by canon, and the camera is recognised by istopmotion (camera test function says the camera is compatible) but there is no live feed, and it won't capture an image - 'capturing still image failed'.
This is the same with animaide - camera recognised but won't feed or take a photo. Framethief won't work either.
Has anyone got any ideas as to how i could fix this problem? My OS is up to date - am i missing some drivers or something?
Thanks in advance for any help - this is driving me crazy!

Hi Tom. I'm not sure about istopmotion or animaide, but Canon Remote Capture is a fantastic piece of software. What are you trying to achieve with it? I (or someone else) may be able to suggest a tweak to get Remote Capture to deliver what you're looking for.
Otherwise, sorry, you may have to brave the support of those other products.

hi jaymis - yes Remote Capture is really good, but basically the reason why i need to get some proper animation software working with my camera is because it drops captured images straight onto a timeline - which as you can imagine cuts out a LOT of work, and just makes the whole animating process much easier. I doubt that Remote Capture can me modified to do this but if anyone's got any ideas?
What I'm thinking is... I never installed ImageBrowser on the Canon disc, as I prefer to use finder to download pics... maybe there was a driver or plugin that is normally installed with that? Unfortunately I seem to have lost the disc anyway...
Also, I am currently not using a memory card and just saving straight to my G4's HD, would this be causing a problem? does some software need a memory card to be present in order to work?

I did manage to get Animade remotely controling remote capture and importing back into animade with my Powershot A40 and new 40D.
I've just recently finished a 2 minute stop motion ad with the Canon 40D, and after initially planning to use frame thief, Animade, or remote Capture, the most reliable way I discovered was to use the EOS utility and built in Live feed.
If you want to shoot with digital stills, the workflow of using your remote capture software is to use it how you are currently doing. iStopmotion is best used as a video tap to preview animation and to onion skin.
there's loads of info about all this here....
