As mentioned on CDM today, anyone in the New York area I hope will be able to drop by Brooklyn for a music maker show-and-tell, with home-built / independent / customized hardware and code.
"Semi-official" description:
Quote: Musicmakers @ Etsy
Hosted by MAKE and Create Digital Music
Join us for an evening of handmade music technology, from DIY, open
source, and custom hardware to handcrafted code and patches. Bring
your own projects (in-progress or complete) for an informal show and
tell, or just come to check out what other people are doing and learn
how to get started in DIY music yourself. Phillip Torrone from MAKE,
now housed in the Etsy Labs, and Peter Kirn from Create Digital Music
will be on-hand with music projects and kits you can make and
connections to online communities for music tech DIYers. We're
building a series of regular meetings for makers in the NYC area, with
a first concert planned for later in the spring. Experts and newcomers
welcome.
Date:
Thursday, 3/22
Time:
7pm - whenever
Directions:
http://www.etsy.com/labs/visit.html
Planning on coming? Interested in coming at a further date? Let us know here. And if you've got a project with documentation, feel free to link in this thread. (And if there's no documentation, well, all the more reason to bring it and we'll snap some shots.)
RSVP to the Etsy folks, as well, since it's their house: rsvp@etsy.com
Also, if any of you would like to help me shoot some quick snappy videos, it'd be hugely appreciated. Any videographers in the house?[/url] |

| I forwarded this info to a bunch of friends in Harlem/Brooklyn, including a guy who's been building this insane MIDI controlled cimbalom-type thing. Sounds fun, wish I could be there! |

Peter, they spelled your name wrong on the events page at Etsy labs site.
I'm gonna try and make it out there next Thursday. |

@ishkiodo: Thanks; they know they're supposed to update the event ... any day now. On the upside, it makes me sound like I'm related to Jerome Kern.
Glad to meet you folks in person! |

Just got these details from Eric Singer:
Quote: ...Eric Singer, founder and director of LEMUR: League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots (http://lemurbots.org) will show the MidiTron (http://miditron.com), the Sonic Banana and the Slime-o-tron.
Now, that Slime-o-tron better be musical in keeping with the theme of the event. As long as it goes "splat!", I'm happy. |

| Oooh, I realize I should add -- be sure to email rsvp@etsy.com if you're coming; they prefer you do that. |

Hi,
I'm attending tomorrow's event, and I was wondering if it will be ok to bring camera and take pictures of the event? I'm also a photo major college student and think the event will make some interesting photography. Please let me know if it is possible to take pictures at the event. thanks!

Heck, yeah! If you see someone *really* famous, maybe they can sign a release. The rest of us: shoot away, as long as we're not doing anything ... compromising.
Be sure to post to the CDM flickr pool to make sure we don't miss them:

This is just our first meeting, so we have no idea who will show up. But I'm sure we'll have something photo-worthy.
See you tomorrow! |
