| Does anyone know how to get AUs to show up in Live. I usually don't use plug-ins, but that has all changed now. Thanks a lot. |

Hmmm, I'm not sure aparroyo as I only use Digital Performer 5. Maybe take a trip over to the Big Blue Lounge and ask them, if no one replies here ...

So I've been messing around with this today, and it's really awesome. I've never messed around with Max/MSP and I've actually been thinking lately that I should be getting into it, since I want to buy a Lemur someday. The learning curve seems really high on this, just like Max/MSP and Reaktor.
I just really hope with SonicBirth being free, and open source now, we'll start to see many more free plug-ins. Don't get me wrong, some people make some great plug-ins ... but I can't justify spending $500-1000 on a freaking plug-in. I can justify it if it's a DAW, or some uber program like Max/MSP, Kontact 2, or Reaktor.
Here's to hoping for a better future for Mac AUs & VSTs. |

| I just answered my own question. When you export through sonicbirth, the AU will appear in the SonicBirth Folder. All you have to do in Live is turn on the AU option (under Plug-Ins) and rescan. Then your AU should show up alongside the prefab ones. holla. |

My first stab at a plugin, a simple beat slicer.
BeatCutter
It's monophonic for now (still haven't quite grasped the MIDI Multi Note argument), the Hold Switch (next to the beat division dropdown) doesn't work right, and it's pretty ugly (2 minute custom GUI in PhotoShop). But it works.
Oh yeah, first beat is on C3 and goes up from there. Hope someone else finds this useful or informative.. the circuit design isn't beautiful but it's pretty logically laid out. Enjoy! |

| BeatCutter updated to polyphonic status, same link as my above post. Still ugly, though. |

8 op FM synth. First version. It's a bit complicated and seems to take a while to load in Live on my 2.0ghz intel mac.
OP routing is freely assignable, but forward only - feedback will be added next version (e.g. when i have time for connecting !8 wires together). Each OP has four wave types to chose from, macro and micro detuning, and amp levels. Everything is ready for automation
Anyway, it was what I decided to do while wrapping my head around sonicbirth... and since it would be much cheaper to build my own FM synth than to buy NI's FM synth.
Enjoy!

Things I'm adding now but haven't finished: Assignable LFOs and envelopes. Three submixers that can be panned in a stereo field, and/or convolved together. E.g. lets say you have an OP chain of OP4->OP3->OP2->OP1 and another one using OP8 through 5. Put those two chains in opposite sides of the stereo field for wicked crazy effects. Or convolve the mixers together for pure CPU overloading. |

Performance limit.
I have all ready reached the limit of usability in sonicbirth, which makes me very very sad and disappointed. My FM synth with 8ops (free routing and feedback) seems too complicated for sonicbirth to load anymore. It now takes upwards of a half an hour just to load the patch in sonicbirth since my last session editing it. in addition the audio unit takes just as long to load in a host.
p.s. i'm guessing this is why it went open source. it will not take long for someone who purchased this to get frustrated and demand their money back. especially those (like me) who know what they are doing and want to push the limits on any creative tool they use.
pps. i'll upload the patch when i get home this afternoon so that you can see the performance/CPU over load that occurs just trying to load the damn thing. |

| Wow, that sucks to hear octatone. Have you hit them up on the SB forum about this? I would if I were you ... |
