Hi there. Since I noticed there's quite a bit of Doctor Who love around here and chiptune/8-bit love as well, I decided to do the logical thing: make an 8-bit styled Dr. Who theme track ( also, I couldn't find one that already existed to enjoy for my own listening pleasure ). It's pretty much 100% indebted to the original Derbyshire version, which is the only version of the theme that matters, really. The only real deviation was the addition of some noise drums...it didn't quite feel like an NES tune without them.

Thanks to CDM, by the way, for the heads up on the YCMK Magical 8bit Plug, which is what I used on this track.

Also, feel free to nit-pick my transcription. I'm terrible at reading music so this was all sequenced "by ear", so it may not be 100%.

Criticism is welcomed.

Dr. NES

Hmm. A lot of page views but not a lot of comments. I'll take that as a bad sign. Laughing

I just checked it out. Sounds great to me! Good job. Gotta love the YCMK Magical 8bit Plug.

Thanks, and thanks for listening/commenting!

Depends on which version of the theme you're referencing. Going by the original Derbyshire version it's more or less the same tempo. It's probably slower than the new Murray Gold version though, if that's what you meant.

And just to rant a bit, I think Gold needs to get the can...his orchestral underscore actually manages to come across as more over-the-top cheesy than any of the old synth tracks, and it seems to only get worse as each season goes on. His comments concerning the original composition are enough to ensure that I'll never be a fan of his work.

Ok, end of rant. Just had to get that off my chest. Laughing
