Oooh, awesome. Going to fire it up now. Have you played with the Windows VST yet?

I also really enjoy the "alternate" waveforms included with Live 5 and Operator.

Any specific conditions that cause Live to crash?

I just tested it with Live 5.2 and Logic Pro 7.2 without incident. Also running 10.4.7.

(in the hopes of getting the party re-started)

not sure. but i've had to restart Ableton several times.

All i did was open a MIDI track and drop in the plug-in and record/loop a few simple chords like i always do. and then while it was looping i tried to throw in a reverb on the insert return, and it crashed.

i wasn't running any other apps besides Ableton and Mozilla Firefox. also i use a PreSonus Firepod and Digidesign MBOX2.

Hmmm ... odd. I just tried repeating your steps and can't cause the same problem. Define "a reverb." (I tried Live's reverb.)

yes that is correct, Live's Reverb or any other it doesn't seem to matter. i used Audio Damage's Deverb. it seems to happen just as the loop is playing and i hit alt+apple+T to add and insert return, and then it crashes. i can reproduce the same result over and over again at will.

i can send you a problem report(the ones you send to apple after an app crashes) if that helps.

Hmmm, tried that, too. Still nothing. Must be some other variable here.

You know, I've had other effects sometimes cause problems, implicating the wrong plug-in. (The broken plug-in turned out not to be the one I thought was broken, in other words.) Other than that, though, no clue; too many potential variables.

I experienced a severe crash on my similarly-spec'd G4 Powerbook, but I was running Logic Express. Built-in audio, Caps Lock keyboard, no other plugins, just Logic Express with the one plug-in. I tried to change the last slider while sound was still going and the CPU ground to a halt. It took several restarts to get it working properly again and I promptly deleted the plug-in upon restart. It sounded good for the 10 minutes I played with it, but it's not worth huge crashes.

Yes, in order to run a plug-in on an Intel Mac, you need a Universal-native version of the plug-in. The only way to run a PowerPC-native plug-in is with a PowerPC-native host. So you might want to keep an old version of Ableton Live or something around, just in case. It'll slow down performance, but it will run -- I was surprised for the brief period I did have an Intel Mac that I could make stuff run, just more like an old PowerBook G4.

As for these crashes, I'm totally befuddled. I really haven't had any issues, and I've tried this in every app I can think of. Must be missing something. (I believe you, of course ... let's see how long it takes for me to suffer the same problems.)

for some reason my copy of Magical 8bit has never shown me the 25% pulse option or the frequency sweep switch. I do have the newest AU from the site, loaded in Logic Express 7.1.2... anybody know whats up?

Hey ekd -- sorry, no idea what might be causing that. Seems to work for me, though I think I tested with Live + Logic Pro. (Logic Pro should be the same as Express, though, so either something weird is happening or I wasn't paying attention ... or both.)
