Hey Forum readers. I really like Create Digital Music.

I've started a new blog dedicated to Linux music apps:

Come check it out, thanks

Nice blog. Do you plan to post anything about the use of linux handheld music apps? I'm not sure there's much around, but I do remember something called PDA (Pure Data Anywhere) I think?

That sounds interesting! There's also the Processing Mobile initiative; I've been spending more time with it lately so it'll be interesting to see where that goes. I'm probably actually more interested with mobile Linux apps than Windows.

See also the recent story on GP2x, which is a Linux device:

So far, just a tracker, but I think other software should be possible, as well -- and significantly easier to code than via homebrew solutions for other devices.

Do you have a link for the Process Mobile Initiative?

check it: http://mobile.processing.org/

It's still very much in it's infancy, but it's still very wonderful.

That's some interesting stuff. Linux is quite capable in a number of areas, including mobile. I'll see what I kind find out.

thanks

Thanks for the link, it looks really interesting, I'll have to keep an eye out for that.

Just looking through the Processing Mobile project, it's actually a lot further along than I imagined -- great!

Aside from Processing, I see a whole lot of potential for mobile devices running Java in general, and linking to new, mobile-savvy versions of OpenGL (i.e., OpenGL running on mobile video cards).

Note that, while I am a big fan of Linux, it's also possible to run Java code on a Windows Mobile device:
http://blog.vikdavid.com/2004/12/java_on_pocketp.html

... That's important, though, as it would mean you could build a Java-based mobile app that runs on all these new Linux, Symbian, and Windows Mobile smart phones, etc.
