1 axiom 25 + $2.50 worth of wood grain contact from k-mart = something I'm much more comfortable using... something about woodgrain (even fake)
just feels so so right...

That looks so cool! Really nice how you've finished the 'endcheeks' Bit like the binding on posh guitars.
You should submit this to makezine.com, they'd love it.

HA! Now that's a beautiful, beautiful thing. I'll share with the public readers of CDM if that's okay.
Now I have to figure out what I could do in response ... maybe something fuzzy. (Of course, that means deciding if some of my loaner hardware here is going to become permanent.) |

This is beautiful.
It inspired me to mod some of my stereo components to match my turntable... I went to K-Mart (and WalMart) looking for wood grain panels but couldn't find anything. Would you be able to provide any details on the materials, like a brand name?
I'm hoping that a month from now I'll be able to show off a brushed aluminum Nintendo Wii with wood grain stand. |

Well, I got it In australia, so not sure if they stock the same gear as the U.S, but it was in the stationary section, with contact for covering books and stuff like that.
As for brand, it's brandless. But any hardware kind of place should have it, this shit musta been everywhere in the 70's and 80's, even the wood on my mini korg700 (the first) aint real, just contact covered pulp
If you do attempt a similar thing totally invest in a nice scalpel and ruler, and the real perfectionist will make sure all the wood grain flows the right way
Good luck |
